FANTASTIC WEEKENDS #2 : New dates to be announced

Programme

The second of the Festival’s Three Fantastic Weekends is an innovative programme of new genre productions from the United States, Canada, France, the United Kingdom and Indonesia. You’ll discover multi-flavoured stories about lycanthropic and insect horror, religious fervour, body-goo fun and a thoroughly modern tale of Javanese folk horror, to name but a few. You’ll also find a few thought-provoking films on the October marquee that have plenty of things to say about the societies we live in and a Hammer studio retrospective of lesser-known films from the 1970s.

HAMMER 70s

For a deeply pleasurable journey into past classics, our retrospective Hammer 70s brings you seven, lesser-known films from Hammer Studios. They were produced in the 1970s, a period marked by social change and the emergence of new norms in British society. As a result, films from this legendary British studio no longer shocked and their avant-garde identity had waned. To counter this, they turned to making films that were more modern, openly erotic and increasingly violent with a new generation of Hammer directors, such as Roy Ward Baker, Jimmy Sangster and Peter Sykes, to name a but a few.

See interview with Jimmy Sangster, cult director of the Hammer Studios, recorded in Strasbourg in 2006.
