Yves Montmayeur, a director of documentaries on the fi lm industry, won the Venice Classics Award for Best Documentary on Cinema at the 2015 Venice Film Festival for his portrait of Canadian director Guy Maddin, The 1000 Eyes of Dr Maddin. His specialisation is Asian pop culture, which he has explored in around a dozen documentaries, including Johnnie Got His Gun! (2010) and most recently Kaidan: Strange Stories of Japanese Ghosts (2023). Yves is also a fi lm critic. He has made many documentaries on emerging cultural trends for Arte and moderated master classes at a number of international fi lm festivals, from Cannes to Yangon.
