HANDLING THE UNDEAD

Thea Hvistendahl

Handling the undead

On a summer’s day in Oslo, the dead come back to life. Three families are confronted with the unexpected return of a deceased loved one. A mother, the victim of a road accident a few hours earlier, miraculously wakes up, and a child scratches the earth to get out of its grave. Suddenly, mourning turns into hope.

Beginning as a drama, Thea Hvistendahl’s first film gently moves towards horror, without ever neglecting the trauma experienced by its characters. The theme of the undead is tackled in a sensitive and highly original way in this film adapted from the novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist, author of Let Me In, another Scandinavian horror classic.
