Maldoror est le film des excès. Il nous emporte du joyeux tapage d’un mariage italien à un monde peuplé de monstres humains, avec une violence quasi insoutenable, mais qui n’est jamais gratuite. En effet, du Welz nous confronte à la vérité du mal, une expérience sombre mais éclairante, rare dans le cinéma d’aujourd’hui.

Maldoror is a film of extremes. From the joyously rambunctious Italian wedding scenes, to those of a world of human monsters, its near untenable violence is never gratuitous. Du Welz confronts us with the raw truth of evil, a grim but enlightening experience that’s a rarity in today’s cinema.
