Fils du réalisateur Alexandre Arcady et de la critique Marie-Jo Jouan, Alexandre Aja a grandi sur les plateaux de cinéma. À 18 ans, il passe derrière la caméra et coréalise avec Grégory Levasseur le court métrage Over the Rainbow, sélectionné en compétition à Cannes. Deux ans plus tard, avec Furia, il impose un univers singulier, imprégné d’angoisse. Haute Tension confirme son style haletant et lui ouvre les portes de Hollywood. Il y signe un remake coup de poing de La Colline a des yeux, produit par Wes Craven, le réalisateur du film original, puis explore les terreurs surnaturelles avec Mirrors, la peur des eaux troubles avec Piranha 3D et Crawl, le thriller fantastique avec La Neuvième Vie de Louis Drax ou encore le fantastique teinté de poésie avec Horns. Capable de passer du huis clos oppressant d’Oxygène aux grands spectacles horrifiques, Aja mêle intensité émotionnelle et adrénaline pure. En 2024, il retrouve Halle Berry dans Mother Land, un survival postapocalyptique. Il s’est également distingué en tant que producteur pour d’autres réalisateurs, pour les films 2e Sous-sol et Maniac réalisés par Franck Khalfoun, Pyramide de Grégory Levasseur ou encore The Door de Johannes Roberts. Il prépare aujourd’hui Les Fleurs du mal, autour de Baudelaire et Jeanne Duval, et un très attendu Crawl 2, poursuivant un parcours où chaque film repousse les limites du genre.

The son of the director Alexandre Arcady and the critic Marie-Jo Jouan, Alexandre Aja grew up on film sets. At the age of 18, he stepped behind the camera and co-directed the short film Over the Rainbow with Grégory Levasseur, which was selected for competition at Cannes. Two years later, he directed Furia, creating a unique world imbued with anxiety. High Tension confirmed his gripping style and paved the way to Hollywood, where he made a hard-hitting remake of The Hills Have Eyes, produced by Wes Craven, the director of the original version. He then delved into supernatural terror with Mirrors and a fear of murky waters with Piranha 3D and Crawl. He went on to make the fantasy thriller The 9th Life of Louis Drax and the poetic fantasy Horns. Capable of shifting from an oppressive confined space, as in Oxygen, to large-scale horror spectacles, Aja combines emotional intensity with pure adrenaline. In 2024, he reunited with Halle Berry for Never Let Go, a post-apocalyptic survival film. He has also distinguished himself as a producer for other directors, such as Franck Khalfoun (P2 and Maniac), Grégory Levasseur (The Pyramid) and Johannes Roberts (The Other Side of The Door). He is currently working on Les Fleurs du mal, a film about Baudelaire and Jeanne Duval, and the highly anticipated Crawl 2, continuing with a career in which each movie pushes the boundaries of the genre.
