Indy, le fidèle retriever de Todd, accompagne ce dernier dans une maison isolée, léguée par son grand-père. Très vite, le « bon chien » perçoit des présences malveillantes. Impuissant mais alerte, il veille sur son maître, dont l’état de santé décline brusquement.

Good Boy se vante d’être « le premier film d’horreur raconté du point de vue d’un… chien ». Ce qui aurait pu n’être qu’un simple ressort scénaristique donne en fait un vrai film de genre, à la fois terrifiant – grâce à sa mise en scène ultra efficace – et bouleversant, porté par la performance exceptionnelle d’Indy, le retriever du réalisateur, dressé pendant trois ans spécialement pour ce rôle.

Todd is accompanied by Indy, his faithful retriever, to an isolated farmhouse left him by his grandfather. Very quickly, the dog is aware of malevolent presences. Powerless but alert, he watches over his master, whose state of health suddenly declines.

Good Boy claims to be “the first horror film told from the viewpoint of a … dog”. What might have been but a simple plot device turns out to be a genuine genre film, both terrifying – thanks to its highly skilful mise en scene – and deeply moving, buoyed by the exceptional performance of Indy, the director’s retriever, who underwent three years of training for this role.
