Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, with dark glasses and hats jammed on their heads, are part of cinephilia’s collective unconscious, in this story of miscreants who reunite a blues band to save their former orphanage from foreclosure. The Blues Brothers has become a standard for modern musicals, as well as being an excellent portrait of its time. Soul and blues icons cross paths in front of John Landis’s camera, and James Brown gives way to Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles and John Lee Hooker.
