8pm: Coffy

ER nurse by day, killer vigilante-with-a-heart by night, Coffy, with Pam Grier in the titular role, blows the brains out of a dealer who gave her 11-year-old sister a shoot of tainted heroin. But her thirst for vengeance and justice doesn’t stop there. She goes undercover as deluxe prostitute, determined to wipe out everyone involved in the ghetto drug trade, meaning dealers, pimps, Mafia and corrupt law enforcement.

Coffy defined many of Pam Grier’s future roles and established her as the iconic female actor of blaxploitation.

United States – 1973 – 1hr31 – in English subtitled in French – 16+

Director: Jack Hill

Actors: Pam Grier, Booker Bradshaw, Robert DoQui

10:15pm: Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!

Three sexy, thrill-seeking go-go dancers, led by the wicked and merciless Varla (Tura Santana), head for the desert where they play high-speed chicken. When a guy and his teeny-bopper girlfriend show up, he gets his neck snapped and she gets kidnapped. Then the deadly trio hatch a plot to steal a stash of money hidden on a rundown desert ranch, where a manipulative father in a wheelchair, reigns over his frightening family weirdos. But appearances can deceive.

Though a critical and box office flop, Pussycat was an influential cult film of the 1960s, partially inspiring Tarantino’s Death Proof.

United States – 1965 – 1hr24 – in English subtitled in French – 12+

Director: Russ Meyer

Actors: Tura Satana, Haji, Lori Williams, Susan Bernard
