In 1980s Yugoslavia, a family welcome their uncle back from Germany to celebrate Christmas together. During the meal, an incongruous event shatters all fragile appearances.
The Uncle delivers its cinematic blows in the best tradition of Michael Haneke (Funny Games) and Yórgos Lánthimos (Dogtooth). Behind its false appearance of yet another “family dinner gone wrong”, this debut feature evokes, with disturbing brilliance, a dark page in Croatian history. Predrag Miki Manojlovic, Emir Kusturica’s favourite actor, is outstanding in the title role.
