Gregg Araki
Raised in southern California, Gregg Araki had an early penchant for the visual arts, comic books and pop music. He completed his BA in film from the University of Santa Barbara with a MAF from USC. Araki, whose non-conformism never went unnoticed, made a name for himself in 1992 with The Living End. In 1994 he launched the trilogy Teen Apocalypse.In 1999, he directed the comedy Splendor. After a stint in TV, Araki found critical acclaim with Mysterious Skin (2005), which dealt with the sensitive issue of pedophilia. His recent film SmileyFace was screened at the Director’s Fortnight in Cannes and in 2010 Kaboom was part of the official selection at the Cannes FilmFestival.
