Diamantino is a singular, unclassifiable work by a visionary directorial duo. An outstanding football player whose secret lies in his surrealistic visions on the ball, is nurtured by his two mercantile sisters, hunted for by a pair of female spies and targeted by neo-fascists who would like to clone him.
This ambitious premise could have given rise to futile frenzy, but with its football Zoolander overtones, Gabriel Abrantes and Daniel Schmidt’s third feature is a work of relevance: a bold satire on nationalism and the search for perfection, with genetic trafficking and the migrant crisis looming in the background.
