As part of a hit TV show, men are chosen to escape from killers, in a long chase filmed on camera. François participates in the show because he dreams of upward social mobility. But does he really have a chance of winning? Yves Boisset, the well-known political filmmaker of the 1970s and 1980s, pillories the entertainment-obsessed society and its indecent outgrowths. Michel Piccoli delivers a memorable performance as the exuberant presenter.
