Dog is an erudite and cinephile young dog, but he’s also lonely. One depressing evening, he decides to buy a robot companion and the two quickly become inseparable. But then he decides to take his new friend to the beach. Pablo Berger is the guilty party to which we owe the totally madcap Spanish-fiction films Abracadabra and Torremolinos 73. This time round, he tries his hand at animation, adapting the cult graphic novel Robot Dreams by New York illustrator Sara Varon. A film of great delicacy, it not only perpetuates the gentle madness of Berger’s previous features, it plants a huge smile on the faces of both young and old. An unforgettable ode to friendship – and love.
