Roman returns to his family’s land after the death of his grandfather. He would like to sell the property but his grandfather’s acolytes object. Dogs is a Romanian eastern, as opposed to the American western, and involves questions of inheritance, boundaries, property and crime. Selected at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section, Bogdan Mirica’s first full-length feature is a gripping drama about a man trapped on his family’s land in its oppressive immensity. Dogs, a kind of European o shoot of Cormac McCarthy, reveals an intriguing young lmmaker.
