An actor disfigured by disease and in love with his neighbour is convinced his life would be completely different if he had a more attractive face. After a facial reconstruction operation, he finally becomes a man with the ideal physique. However, everything soon seems to be slipping away from him and he develops an obsession with an actor in a play based on his old life.
