Candy, who believes he’s of extraterrestrial origin, is tired of picking up the crumbs of a bygone civilization. When a dormant space ship begins to reawaken, he dreams of going “home”.
Crumbs is an atypical post-apocalyptic film: the toxic wasteland trope has been replaced by an extraordinarily beautiful Ethiopian landscape, and any catastrophic war belongs to history beyond memory. What’s left is a retro- futuristic universe bordering on the surreal, where 20th century, mass- produced objects are considered objets d’art. But amidst toy swords from Carrefour, Santa Claus and St Justin Bieber, Crumbs is a tale of two lovers left alive.
