A terminally ill woman is offered the chance to stage her last moments for a television programme. When she turns it down, a cameraman decides to film her without her knowledge using a camera implanted in his eye. Tavernier turns to science fiction to deliver a bitter critique of the excessive voyeurism of television. The film is driven by superb acting, with a spirited Harvey Keitel pitted against a Romy Schneider at the height of her talents.
