Aram is exploited at work and badgered by a wife who wants him to earn more money. He’s indispensible to his boss, but with no promotion in sight. But his loyalty is only skin deep. Aram has a mistress and he’s masterminded the perfect plan to kidnap his boss’s daughter for a ransom.
Adrian Garcia Bogliano has made a taut thriller that portrays very unlikeable people, and a lm that’s as much about fate’s irony as it is about greed. The theme music, also entitled Scherzo Diabolico, weaving in and out of a beautiful Mexican landscape, is a dark reminder that sometimes no amount of foresight can prevent the best laid schemes from going awry, and turning into a “diabolic joke”.
