Nosferatu (Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens)

Without the rights to Bram Stoker’s novel, Murnau’s Dracula was adapted accordingly. At a time when cinema was beginning to enter into the viewer’s unconscious, the visual potency of this silent expressionist work in 1922 – the impact of actor Mack Schreck’s vampire, the weight carried by each shadow – was tremendous. Murnau created a standard for fantastic cinema with a work that is still unequalled today.
