A scary, tight-lipped taxi driver chases two very dissimilar old friends in the streets of Paris throughout the night. This gruelling odyssey provides Julien Séri with an opportunity to direct a very graphic work: a car-chase film in which the roar of an engine and the faint light in a tunnel assume terrifying proportions.
The merit of Night Fare lies in its audacious nature in the context of French genre cinema, which is particularly timid and could almost be described as moribund at this point in time. A low-budget, visually ambitious film, this French-language After Hours is a substantive and gripping work with an impact somewhere between that of a vigilante movie and a comic-book film.
