Afghanistan 2014. A military squad is on a surveillance mission in the remote valley of Wakhan when soldiers suddenly begin to vanish. When “logical” explanations fail, the captain loses his grip and succumbs to obsessive behaviour. His authority slips away; his men give in to fear. Clément Cogitore depicts the disorientation of men forced to confront realities that neither their beliefs nor science or technology can account for. In this complex and intense film, set in a mystical valley where war cohabits with the sacred, the enemy is not the Taliban, but implodes from within, as iron-clad Western certainties fall apart.
