Mark, a studio cameraman and amateur filmmaker, underwent traumatic psychological experiments as a child, filmed by his perverse father. He grows up to become murderer who films the death of his victims. “To film is to kill”, which is why Mark avoids filming Helen, a woman he thinks he can love. Critical and public outrage over this subversive film undid Powell’s career in the UK, and he had to go to Australia to find work. Today the film is considered by many to be Powell’s greatest film
