OPERATION AVALANCHE

Four CIA agents, who are supposed to be tracking down a Russian spy in NASA, decide to simulate a landing on the moon by duping their superiors. In front of Matt Johnson’s camera, the first journey to the moon thus becomes a huge deception orchestrated by the secret services. Shot in the manner of a pseudo-documentary, this second feature by a young filmmaker is a daring thriller that humorously revisits one of the major events of the 20th century. Despite its shoestring budget, the film captures the tone and image texture of the 1960s. Operation Avalanche provides an analysis of image-based manipulation and it also knocks the conspiracy theorists on the head with impudence.
