MURDER ME, MONSTER

The blood-splattered opening sequence of a woman trying to put her dangling head back on is a suitably jarring one, and it sets the stage for the serial killings that follow in this remote Andean valley. Suspicion falls on a farmer who claims to be connected telepathically to a monster, but the psychological toll the investigation takes on the police starts to override who is guilty or not.

Murder Me, Monster is a moody mix of the concretely horrific and a metaphysical reflection on our inner fears. Fadel’s new feature eschews meaning in the traditional sense, reaching us somewhere beneath our conscious threshold of rationality. But count on its rather un-metaphysical monster to snap you back to the tangible.
