MASTER CLASS WILLIAM FRIEDKIN

Saturday, 23 September
2pm at the Star St-Exupéry
followed by the film Sorcerer

In the context of the tribute paid by the Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival, William Friedkin will hold a master class moderated by Mark Kermode. In addition to a retrospective centred on the creator of Sorcerer, the main emphasis, however, will be on his passion for cinema and all matters relating to it.

William Friedkin, who shaped cinema by developing from one genre to another, far from any compartmentalisation and with more than 40 years of undiminished passion, takes particular care to protect the legacy left to young directors and will therefore have much to say of interest to those who would like to leave their own mark on the silver screen. He will also discuss his sources of inspiration, whether in the eld of art or literature, illustrating the individuality of his work.

Mark Kermode is a distinguished British film critic, writer and broadcaster. He is chief film critic for The Observer, and broadcasts on BBC Radio and Television. He is the author of The Good, the Bad & The Multiplex and Hatchet Job, and has written and presented such television documentaries as The Fear of God: 25 Years of The Exorcist and On the Edge of Blade Runner.

The Festival will present William Friedkin with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to world cinema at the closing ceremony on Saturday 23 September.
