Masterclass by Jean-Pierre Berthomé

Film sets have many functions. Firstly, they indicate the time and place of the action but they also feed the spectator’s dreams and desire to be surprised. At its most complex, it is capable of producing meaning itself or becoming a player in the plot. It is this diversity of set design functions that this conference will explore. Jean-Pierre Berthomé is the author of numerous books on cinema, in particular on set design, on which he has written four works, including his latest, Le Décor de film : De D. W. Griffith à Bong Joon-ho. He is also the author of works on Jacques Demy, Orson Welles and Max Ophüls.
