Traveling along the New Zealand coastline with his wife and two children, a schoolteacher is attacked by two drifters. The pair take them on a terrifying journey, during which the father is forced to confront a painful event from his past. Ever since Deliverance in 1972, the survival in the wild film has become an obvious metaphor for man facing his bestial nature.

Coming Home in the Dark is no exception and relies on extremely convincing actors to convey the pure savagery of their characters and the context in which they develop. James Ashcroft has crafted a shocking and radical film.
