Fearing an incestuous relationship, Baron Zorn keeps his grown children Emil and Elizabeth locked away from each other in his mansion. Dr. Falkenberg is convinced he has a remedy to cure them of their mysterious condition. In the meantime, the village is in panic over the disappearances that are rocking the community.
Peter Sykes has created an atmosphere of malaise around backward superstitions that turn against those who hold them. Pernicious violence erupts in scenes of pure horror punctuated by bloodcurdling screams. A rare Hammer movie about literally mad love and family relationships that defy notions of right and wrong.
