Folktales are an inexhaustible source of material for filmmakers. Some stories that have been told for centuries contain a treasure trove of terror, cruelty and horror. In this horror anthology, eight international filmmakers draw from their native folklore. The viewer navigates between a nightmarish story of forbidden love in Austria, a Turkish tale of horror in which a jinni grabs a newborn baby and an encounter of the third kind in the American mountains. The segment by Peter Strickland, a free adaptation of a Hungarian folktale, halfway between the Brothers Grimm and the giallo, concludes The Field Guide to Evil in grand style.
