The film reflects its title in its tortuous and fragmented structure. Toby Jones, brilliant portrayer of Truman Capote and the memorable villain in the series Sherlock, plays an introvert terrified by the violence he harbours within.
After a romantic evening, a woman disappears, and while Carl delves into his memory to recall what may have happened after their meeting another woman appears: his mother. Director Rupert Jones, brother of the lead actor, focuses on the destructive relationship between mother and son.
Kaleidoscope has all the qualities of a fast-paced thriller, but it’s also a brilliant exploration of the psychological maze of a sick mind.
