Gripping a shotgun, Oscar Svendsen awakes beneath a corpulent female corpse in what used to be a pleasantly respectable strip and porn joint on the Norwegian-Swedish border, the Pink Paradise Club. Amongst the sex-toy dolls are eight other corpses and in front of him stands triumphant Detective Solor of the National Criminal Investigation Service. Gradually, under Solor’s slightly eccentric interroga- tion methods, Oscar spills out a zany story of how he and three ex-cons under his surveillance at the Evergreen Plastic Christmas Tree Plant bought a winning football pool ticket. But oh-how-difficult it is to share a multi-million kroner jackpot, thus culminating in an orgy of bodies and body parts, nail guns and wood chippers as helping hands.
This peppy dark comedy about greed, nods to Reservoir Dogs and Fargo when it comes to a moral code among thieves. Jackpot (as Headhunters) is based on the novel by celebrated Norwegian crime writer Jo Nesbo. Magnus Martens was pegged by Variety as one of 10 Euro-directors to keep an eye on. He made his feature début with United in 2003.
