ROBOT AND FRANK

In a not so distant future, Frank, a retired kleptomaniac suffering from memory loss, lives a solitary life as a cynical and cantankerous old man. Bored, he shoves off the comforts offered by his son and daughter – a successful business man and a world-wide charity worker. But his son forces him to take a roommate in the form of a robot. The robot’s task is to watch over Frank and carry out domestic duties. Robot and Frank become fast friends and develop a complicity that surprisingly injects a high dose of vitality into the grumbler’s life.

If we fear a loss of humanity on our reliance on machines that may one day replace us, the film suggests that our humanity is threatened more by our lifestyles; and that a robot can be more human that we are in our daily lives. With a high-gloss cast, Jake Schreier hits just the right tone between laughter and emotion in this most amoral of fables.

Jack Shreier graduated from the Tisch School of the Arts in New-York. A founder of Waverly Films, a group of Brooklyn filmmakers, Robot and Frank is his first feature film.
