THE WICKER MAN

A police o cer comes to investigate a disappearance on the island of Summerisle and discovers a community worshiping Pagan gods. He sets out to look for a child whose photograph no one seems to recognise, and gradually realises that she may have been sacrificed.
Christopher Lee said himself that this was the lm he was most proud of. A bizarre work rmly rooted in the 1970s, The Wicker Man eschews classi cation, a pop object that perpetually oscillates between horror movie and pure thriller. The portrayal of the sect and its ritual is simply hypnotic, which is what gives Robin Hardy’s film its strangely disturbing quality.
