Audition (Ôdishon)

A film producer, widowed seven years previously, organises a fake audition for a film that doesn’t exist, in the hopes of finding a new wife. He discovers his heart’s desire in the person of Asami, an intelligent and seemingly gentle young woman, but whose true personality has yet to be revealed.

Takashi Miike’s Audition, a trailblazing pearl of J-horror with a 20-year head start on #MeToo, is a parable on the entertainment industry and the status of women in Japan.
